A Glimpse of Apple’s AI Future

July 09, 20232 min read

The latest Apple Event left many eagerly anticipating the iPhone 15, but in my opinion, it might not have been the flashy device update we expected. However, amidst the familiar fanfare, Apple managed to drop something truly special..

The most exciting revelation is the integration of LLM that will reside on your Apple device itself.

This means Siri is going to get faster, smarter, and more private than ever before. No dependence on an internet connection - it's all happening right on device! It's no small feat, as it demands serious computational power. But Apple is known for pushing technological boundaries, and they're delivering it to your wrist. Recently it's been announced they are spending millions daily to train their own models.

In my view, this move by Apple signifies a broader trend. ChatGPT-like models integrated into all devices, seamlessly interfacing with your apps and files, even offline. Apple is positioning itself as the direct provider to consumers, creating a moat around other third-party AI apps.

This strategic move also means Apple can capture more user data to refine its models due to their wide addoption. The more data, the better the AI - creating an incredible data-feedback loop that could further set Apple apart in the AI landscape.

While it's exciting for Apple enthusiasts, it poses challenges for competitors like Microsoft, Openai and openai-wrapper-startups.

Apple's all-in-one approach and deep integration could disrupt the AI market, making it harder for other companies to compete. However it's a significant step toward a more intelligent, private, and integrated AI experience.
